Academical Proof of Concept: Atrazine Herbicide Degradation Through Bacterial Consortium

Single Strains
Consortia "Embryon"
Evolved Consortia
We have demonstrated the effectiveness of our technology in a number of cases, including the degradation of the herbicide Atrazine using a bacterial consortium. This long-lasting soil pollutant is highly toxic. In partnership with INRAE (National Institue Agronomy Ecological Research), we have succeeded in doubling the efficiency of atrazine molecules degradation in barely one month. It was done with a consortium of co-evolved strains by means of directed natural selection within our machine.

How our expertises function ?

Let's take a more detailed look at how our expertise works. First the high throughput screening phase consists in exploring the evolutionary landscape of microbials or consortia on a given function. Once diversity is appeared, we select and propagate the best cocktails of microorganisms in a fully automated process. This operation is repeated over several generations until the functionality results stabilise at the highest possible performance levels. Finally, the stability assessement phase enables us to guarantee the durability of the consortium under real operating conditions.

What do we obtain ?

Our selection capacity is coupled with real-time monitoring of evolution data via several optical sensors. Indicators feedback for each different droplet enables us to assess the performance of all our bioreactors simultaneously. As part of our evolution process and scale-up protocol process, we provide a solution that integrates the entire value chain, from identifying the use case to formulating the consortia. All being done in a record time and in a natural way, without genetic engineering.

What are our competitives advantages

Economical

Thanks to our mastery of fluid physics, our solution is safe and particularly economical in terms of consumables, especially plastics.

Time Reducing

The speed of operation and automation of our machines enable us to drastically reduce the time required compared with other available technologies.

Exhaustivity

One of the great strengths of Revobiom's technology is its exhaustive use of evolutionary paths. The number of bioreactors we have enables us to study possible evolutionary pathways while determining their potential at very high speed.

Natural selection

The advantage of reproducing a natural process, Darwinian selection, is that we can access a level of complexity comparable to those found in nature. It is from this complexity that the power of consortia derives, a complexity that genetic engineering does not allow us to access today.‍
